As in any move, a few things got broken. I backed up the database for the old server, but since I know about as much about MySQL as Intelligent Design “Theorists” know about science, I couldn’t get it to upload properly. I manually restored the entries back to show #8 and will eventually put an appropriately backdated post with links pointing to direct downloads of shows 1-7 and stuff but I fear the original posts are lost forever. It’s not a huge loss but if anyone DOES want me to retype them, let me know and I guess I can do that.

Re: Radio broadcasts and payments to artists-
“Music is complicated. There are two potential rights at issue. One is the rights related to the composition. The other is the right related to the performance. From the very beginning, music played on the radio has been responsible for the composition rights. But what I was describing was the performance rights.

E.g., if Madonna records “The National Anthem” (a composition in the public domain) and it gets played on terrestrial radio, the station pays no one. If Madonna records “Happy Birthday” (still under copyright), then the owner of the composition rights gets paid, but still, Madonna gets nothing. The story is different if the “radio” is internet radio. For any digital audio recording, both the performer and the composer gets paid. Hope that helps.” -L. Lessig

Okay, so maybe only one person asked. Not so much asked really as simply inquired as to the state of the show… whether it was dead or not. Nevertheless, I come to you on this night (night for me) with great tidings…and… stuff. Mostly there’s a new show up and my brain is broken thus causing my ability to make with the wry humor and pithy statements to be… well…it’s AWOL. The 82nd Airborne is looking for it as we speak.

Okay, so I just got done watching the first five episodes from the current season of The West Wing and I’m still reeling from it all. Most civilians had five weeks to digest it all… I’ve had… oh… 5 minutes.

Long story short: Things will likely be more spontaneous and sometimes less coherent. I will try to arrange a program each week so as to hopefully reign in the bananna boat parade a little bit. However things should end up being more interesting for you all. Topics may not always revolve solely around Japan but hey, I reserved that right way back when I named the show.
